Yvan Agbo is a wonderful guitarist, with a style all his own. Well respected by his peers, Yvan’s musical style is Afro-Jazz, Funk and blues. Born in Dakar, Senegal, he started to play the guitar at the age 4 and was featured on TV for the first time at age 6. As the youngest child in a family of 6, Yvan  learned how to play from his brothers and sisters, who all played guitar themselves.

After working with various artists in Senegal, he moved to France to team up with his brother Alioune on various musical projects. Throughout his musical development, he created an original and unique finger style technique reminiscent of Wes Montgomery. His electrifying fret-board work and stylish use of octaves makes for a unique listening experience and establishes Yvan Agbo as a rare musical talent.

Yvan Agbo played in various European music festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazz a Vienne, Montereau Jazz Fesitval, Montjoux Festival, Festival du Moule. In addition, he performed as an opening act for many artists and musical groups and has toured throughout France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium and Guadalupe.

Since 2006, he has been performing in Key West as both a solo performer as well as with other Key West musicians. You can often find Yvan performing with Rolando Rojas at the Blue Heaven brunch. Yvan will be at Grunt’s with MC Couscous this Monday from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.  Yvan also plays on the Fury sunset cruise every Friday and Sunday. Last summer he teamed up with the musical group Entrain from Martha’s Vineyard for their 2014 Tour.  Yvan  has been working on a new CD musical project entitled the ‘Afro Beat Project’, and is expected to complete the CD this October, with help from his brother, and some members of Entrain.

A true music lover, Yvan enjoys watching other guitarists and musicians perform, particularly Caffeine Carl Wagoner and Nick Norman at the Smokin Tuna, and Bill Blue when he plays the Green Parrot. Yvan is happy living in Key West, and thankful for having good friends like Tom and Nancy Conger, who helped Yvan get settled when he first arrived in Key West. Yvan views Tom like a second father.
